Charles A. Vacanti, MD, is the Vandam/Covino Professor of Anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School and Anesthesiologist-in-Chief of the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. He has published more than 200 original articles, reviews, book chapters and abstracts, and he holds more than 20 patents. In addition, he serves as the Director for the Laboratories for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is the founding editor of the journal Tissue Engineering and founding president of the Tissue Engineering Society International. He is currently a member of the Governing Council of the Society of Academic Anesthesiology Associations (SAAA), of which he is the immediate past president. Pankaj K. Sikka, MD, PhD, is a staff anesthesiologist at Health Alliance and Emerson Hospitals in Massachusetts. He completed his anesthesia residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, a cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and a PhD in pharmacology at LSU Medical Center. He has held academic faculty appointments at the University of California, San Francisco, the University of Pittsburgh and Harvard Medical School. He was the first ever to culture rat kidney cells in vitro, making it easy and inexpensive to perform experiments. He is a member of the task force on the ASA-SEE program. His research interests include patient safety, novel anesthetic drugs and operating room efficiency. Richard D. Urman, MD, MBA, is an Instructor-in-Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School and a staff anesthesiologist at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. He specializes in ambulatory anesthesia and is the director of procedural sedation management and education for the hospital. He is also a chief executive officer of the Institute for Safety in Office-Based Surgery. Scott Segal, MD, MHCM, is Associate Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School and Vice Chairman for Education in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is a senior editor of the American Board of Anesthesiology written examination and an oral examiner for the board.
