Extraperiosteal Plating of Pronation Abduction Ankle Fractures

Area of Focus: Foot & Ankle. Showcasing extraperiosteal plating of pronation-abduction ankle fractures as an effective method of stabilization that leads to predictable union of the fibular fracture, this video provides a stepwise demonstration of the procedure in the O/R and on a model. A study of 31 consecutive patients with an unstable comminuted pronation-abduction ankle fracture were managed with extraperiosteal plating of the fibular fracture. The patients were evaluated functionally (using AOFAS score), radiographically, and clinically. Immediate postoperative and final follow-up radiographs showed that all patients had a well-aligned ankle mortis on the fractured side, and all fractures healed without displacement.
