Difficult Diabetes is intended for diabetologists and endocrinologists who want to keep abreast of the developments in diabetes. Its key objective is to provide guidance to clinicians about the most topical and controversial aspects of diabetes management. It provides a distillation in areas where clinical guidelines are either controversial or lacking. The book is divided into four sections. The first, on diagnostic and screening issues, questions how and when screening should be undertaken and covers questions such as 'is screening for gestational diabetes worthwhile?'. The second section, on management issues in type 2 diabetes covers a variety of topics from the treatment of obesity in type 2 diabetes to the use of oral hypoglycaemic agents. This is followed by a collection of management issues in type 1 diabetes. The final section explores more general diabetes issues such as managing coexisting disease and employment and driving restrictions.

Is obesity realistically treatable in type 2 diabetes? 6. What are the options for oral agents treatment in type 2 diabetes? 7. Should insulin be used in obese type 2 diabetes? 8. Is the management of diabetic foot ulceration evidence based? MANAGEMENT ISSUES IN TYPE 1 DIABETES 9. Is even moderate control of diabetes in adolescence feasible? 10.
