Whether you're a new SAP customer who needs to forecast your IT hardware budget, or an existing SAP customer who wants to find out if your current hardware will be able to support a new release - your evaluation must be based on a reliable hardware sizing process. This technical guide provides system administrators, technical project managers, and consultants with comprehensive answers to all of the most pressing questions related to sizing: How can I set up a sizing project? How do I obtain the necessary data? How can I validate a sizing process? How do I interpret the results of my sizing project? This book describes different methods and utilities that are available to determine the values you need and in doing so provides the basic information you need in order to efficiently use SAP's Quick Sizer in your initial sizing process, obtain satisfactory results, and to interpret these results in a useful manner. Using standard tools alone, however, doesn't always produce good sizing results. It is the underlying data that matters. To this end, you'll also uncover the methods that enable you to verify sizing results.
Since the goals of sizing projects can be very different, the book contains numerous real-life examples that demonstrate the different methods and possible project situations. Volumes of step-by-step descriptions related to the Quick Sizer and other tools, sample calculations, and best practices for project planning make this exclusive guide an indispensable companion for your sizing projects.

Susanne Janssen has been a member of the Performance, Data Management & Scalability team since 1998.
