Mary Jo Frederich is the director of the IBM Industry Solutions Labs and First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) program. She has more than 25 years of experience in the IT industry, gained while holding positions such as principal of a Northeast networking and systems management consulting practice, portfolio manager for Global Industry Solutions, and systems engineering manager for telecommunications. Throughout her years at IBM, she has gained extensive business and technical management experience working with clients in the consumer packaged goods, communications, utilities, and financial services industries. She is credited with transforming the FOAK program over the last eight years to drive greater value for IBM and its clients.   Peter Andrews, currently an independent executive consultant and writer, coauthored this book when he was the innovation strategist for IBM’s Executive Business Institute. While at IBM, he participated in corporationwide studies into ad hoc innovation, innovation partnering, and the use of collaboration tools for virtual teaming. He has trained hundreds of IBM researchers in techniques for realizing the value of their inventions. He was honored by IBM as one of its “Pioneers of the Web.” He is a popular speaker at conferences and has authored dozens of Executive Tech Reports, which explore innovation and emerging technologies.
