AutoCAD 2009 for Interior Design: A Pragmatic Approach to 3D Modeling provides discipline-specific (interior design) 3D modeling and methods of digital illustration using a tutorial-based approach that covers the latest AutoCAD features and commands. This book provides readers with the necessary experience and practice to produce and illustrate complex 3D interior components and furnished spaces in an amount of time that will allow additional studio projects to be completed in the course of one semester. It begins with basic concepts of 3D solid modeling. As the objects included in the chapter exercises increase in difficulty, so does the level of complexity of concepts and processes. This approach helps readers understand and construct complex composite solid models. A portion of the book includes a four-part chapter on working with the soft goods such as draperies and tablecloths produced with surface modeling techniques. The book also includes a chapter on teaching designers how to render an interior environment and a chapter exercise that teaches students to produce walk-through animations.

Zane D. Curry, Ph.D., has taught courses in 2D and 3D AutoCAD for over 17 years at the university level.  During this time, he developed innovative techniques and materials for teaching AutoCAD.  He has been active in interior design and related areas since 1972.  For 12 years prior to entering academia, he served as owner/principal of a design and construction company.    Zane is an associate professor at Texas Tech University and currently serves as Associate Chair in the Department of Design.  He served as Interior Design Program Director for 12 years.  He graduated from the University of North Texas with a B.F.A. in Interior Design in 1973.  He earned a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Consumer Economics from Texas Tech University with collaterals in industrial engineering and instructional technology.  He has received the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award and is a member of the Texas Tech University Teaching Academy.  His research focus is on computer usage in interior design education and practice, assistive devices for individuals with physical limitations, housing alternatives for rural elderly, and building component technology and development.   He lives in rural West Texas.  He enjoys spending time with his wife of 39 years, three children and their spouses, and two grandchildren.  His hobbies include playing music, fishing, and drawing and painting.
