This book seeks to provide a comprehensive look into the state of the object-oriented art. Based on the contributions to TOOLS 7, it covers all major aspects and competing trends in the O-O community - languages, methods, tools. The book covers several topics pioneered by earlier TOOLS, such as object-oriented format specification, use interface design and application libraries, which now show maturation and practical developments. A whole session has also been devoted to telecommunications applications, an area where some of the most impressive object-oriented systems are being implemented.
