The Student Edition of SIMULINK, in conjunction with the Student Edition of MATLAB, encourages users to build their own models from scratch or manipulate the existing models to create simulations of real-world dynamic systems. A programming background is not a prerequisite.
The Student Edition of SIMULINK(R), in conjunction with the Student Edition of MATLAB(R), encourages users to build their own models from scratch or manipulate the existing models to create interactive simulations of real-world dynamic systems, i.e., air resistance, gear slippage, automotive clutch systems, the effects of the monetary supply on the economy, etc. Users do not need a programming background; SIMULINK(R) provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for building models as block diagrams, using click-and-drag mouse operations. Users define models through SIMULINK(R)'s comprehensive block library of sinks, sources, linear and nonlinear components, and connectors. They then simulate the models by using one of the methods from SIMULINK(R)'s pull-down menu or by entering commands in MATLAB(R)'s command window.

Preface. 1. Getting Started. To the Student. Professional Application Toolboxes. SIMULINK(R) for Windows. SIMULINK(R) for Macintosh. 2. Quick Start. Running a Demo Model. Other Useful Demos. Building a Simple Model. 3. Creating a Model. SIMULINK(R) Windows and Menus. A Model-Building Exercise. Building a Model. Saving the Model. Printing a Block Diagram. Tips for Building Models. 4. Simulation and Analysis. How SIMULINK(R) Works. Simulation. Linearization. Equilibrium Point Determination (trim). References. 5. Using Masks to Customize Blocks. Overview of the Masking Process. Creating a Masked Block. Creating Icons for Masked Blocks. 6. Block Reference. The SIMULINK(R) Block Libraries. 7. Analysis Commands. Integration Methods. Linearization Analysis. Trim Analysis. Appendix A: Block Characteristic Tables. Appendix B: The Extras Block Library. Index.
