Dr. Umayal Lakshmanan is a drug discovery scientist at Experimental Drug Development Centre, A*STAR (Agency for Science Technology and Research). She obtained her PhD from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. Her expertise is in Drug discovery projects in the fields of Oncology and Infectious diseases. She was project leader for several drug discovery collaboration projects with local and international Institutes and Universities. She started her career in drug discovery by leading an ASTAR-BMRC-DSTA grant project in collaboration with DSO to develop and establish a new technology platform for antimicrobial drug discovery, using a whole animal assay for high throughput screening. She was the project leader for the NMRC grant based TB drug discovery project responsible for target-based whole cell high throughput screen for inhibitors and activators of the mycobacterial caseinolytic protease (Clp) degradation complex. She was part of the highly successful SPRINT-TB international collaboration team and led the project for Theme-1 on whole cell High Throughput Screening for identification of novel anti-mycobacterial targets and later on for the NRF-grant based TOPNET program in collaboration with NTU and other international Universities. She also played important roles in various oncology drug discovery campaigns with diverse targets involving epigenetics, kinases and metabolic pathways. She has been an invited as well as selected speaker in various international conferences and symposiums on Drug discovery. Dr. Weizhi Meng is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Denmark.
