Focusing on building high-performance Linux clusters, this book guides the reader through the basics of creating a tuned distributed cluster, and a shared memory super-computing cluster along with a set of performance monitoring tools.
Linux High Performance Clusters is an in-depth look at creating clustered high-performance computing systems with Linux and off-the-shelf computer hardware. Building from the ground up, you will be guided through the nuts and bolts of creating a tuned distributed cluster and a super-computing cluster along with a set of performance monitoring tools. You'll learn all the steps involved in:
Iterconnecting the hardware
Configuring the software
Setting up a user home directory for software development
Writing distributed system software
Instrumenting the source code
Analyzing the performance results
Tuning the system
Author Alex Vrenios is the founder of Distributed Systems Research Lab, and is one of the leading authorities in this field. He will provide you with real-world examples that include source code while also providing you with enough theory and overview that you will be able to maximize your system.

Alexander Vrenios is the Founder and Director of Research at the Distributed Systems Research Lab, LLC, a technical consulting group that specializes in the performance measurement and analysis of distributed computing architectures. He holds a PhD in Computer Science and is a member of the ACM and the IEEE. Dr. Vrenios started his career working with communications and data transmission software on IBM mainframe computers. He made the transition into the networked UNIX environment, learned about inter-process communications, distributed algorithms, and cluster computing.
