The book focuses on control synthesis for semi-Markovian switching systems. By using multiple semi-Markovian Lyapunov function approaches, a basic theoretical framework is formed toward the issue of control synthesis for semi-Markovian switching systems. This is achieved by providing an in-depth study on several major topics such as sliding mode control, finite-time control, quantized control, event-triggered control, synchronization, and fuzzy control for semi-Markovian switching systems. The comprehensive and systematic treatment of semi-Markovian switching systems is one of the major features of the book, which is particularly suitable for readers who are interested to learn control theory and engineering. By reading this book, the reader can obtain the most advanced analysis and design techniques for stochastic switching systems.

Wenhai Qi received the B.S. degree in automation from Qufu Normal University in 2008 and M.S. degree in control science and engineering from Qufu Normal University in 2013. In 2016, he received Ph.D. degree in control theory and control engineering from Northeastern University, Shenyang, China. Now, he works in School of Engineering, Qufu Normal University, Rizhao, 276826, China. He was Visiting Scholar with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Yeungnam University, Gyeongsan, South Korea, in 2017 and 2019. From 2019 to 2020, he visited the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. Prof. Qi is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Control, Automation, and Systems. His research work focused on Markov jump systems, switched systems, positive systems, networked control systems, etc.

Guangdeng Zong received the B.S. degree and M.S. degree in mathematics from Qufu Normal University, Qufu, China, in 1999 and 2002, respectively. In 2005, he received the Ph.D. degree in control theory and control engineering from School of Automation, Southeast University, Nanjing, China. He was Associate Professor and Full professor at the Qufu Normal University (2005-2021) and currently Full Professor at the Tiangong University (since 2022). He was a Postdoctor with the School of Automation, at the Nanjing University of Science and Technology, from 2006 to 2009. In 2010, he was a Visiting Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Utah State University, Logan, U.T., USA. In 2012, he was a Visiting Fellow with the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics, University of Western Sydney, Penrith, Australia. In 2016, he was a Visiting Professor with the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan. From 2018 to 2019, he visited the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. From 2019 to 2020, he visited the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Victoria, Victoria, B.C., Canada. He has published over 200 refereed journal and conference papers on nonlinear control systems, switched systems, time-delay systems, and networked control systems. He is currently an Editorial Board Member for some international journals, such as the International Journal of Systems Sciences,  the International Journal of Control, Automation, and Systems, and the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part I: Journal of Systems and Control Engineering.
