This text explores a number of topics concerning numerical fluid dynamics. It discusses errors in replacing finite differential terms into such finite difference terms due to function. It also discusses stability of solutions, showing that upwind difference schemes are always stable.
For the last twenty years, there has been a phenomenal growth in use of computers for research, design and development. The subject Computational Fluid Dynamics needs both-a high-speed computer and efficient computational methods. For aerodynamicists, this has grown as an important subject. The treatment of the subject starts with the basic equations, their various approximations and solutions. Errors in replacing finite differential terms into such finite difference terms due to truncation are discussed, as well as stability of solutions; it is shown that upwind difference schemes are always stable. Some of the major topics covered are the relaxation techniques, time dependent method, panel method, finite volume and finite element methods, and the salient features in each method are brought out.
