PC Automation with Electronic Messaging

This is a proposal for a book about sending electronic messages (such as standard email) to remote computers to make them perform designated tasks. As hand-held devices proliferate (including cell phones with text message capabilities), so will the need for secure text-based communication with remote workstations and servers.

There are two mature and widely deployed PC technologies that are not yet integrated for most users: electronic messaging and application scripting. Electronic messaging includes standard email, instant messaging, SMS messaging (popular on cellular phones) and various types of platform-specific communications. Scripting comprises VBScript (Microsoft), AppleScript, JavaScript and (in some cases) XML. Bringing these two technologies together enables users to effectively send messages to remote computers that cause those machines to execute specified tasks.PC Automation with Electronic Messaging explains how to unite these two technologies with basic programming and systems integration techniques.
