Design Science Research is a powerful paradigm enabling researchers to make important contributions to society and industry. Simply stated, the goal of DSR is to generate knowledge on how to find innovative solutions to important problems in the form of models, methods, constructs and instantiations. Over the past 20 years, the design science research (DSR) paradigm has developed into an established paradigm in Information Systems Research and it is of strong uptake in many other disciplines, including Management Science and Computer Science.
This book provides a collection of twelve DSR cases, presented by experienced researchers in the field. It offers readers access to real-world DSR studies, together with the authors' reflections on their research processes. These cases will support researchers who want to engage in DSR, and represent a valuable addition to existing introductions to DSR methods and processes. Readers will learn from the hands-on experiences of respected experts who have conducted extensive DSR in a range of application contexts.lt;p>Jan vom Brocke is Head of the Institute of Information Systems at the University of Liechtenstein and Hilti Endowed Chair of Business Process Management. His research focusses on aspects of organizational design, specifically leveraging innovative technology in socio-technical ecosystems. He has published among others in in Management Information Systems Quarterly (MISQ), Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS) and MIT Sloan Management Review (MIT SMR), as well as Journal of Information Technology (JIT), European Journal for Information Systems (EJIS), Information Systems Journal (ISJ), Communications of the ACM (CACM) and MIS Quarterly Executive (MISQe). He has teaching experience in Teaching experience from 25 universities in 13 countries, including at many of the Financial Times Top 50 Business Schools, such as the University of St.Gallen, the University of Warwick, the Smurfit School of Business, and he has been named an AIS Fellow by the Association for Information Systems (AIS). Jan is an invited speaker and trusted advisor on management and technology serving many organizations around the world.
Alan R. Hevner is a Distinguished University Professor and Eminent Scholar in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department in the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida. He also holds the Citigroup/Hidden River Chair of Distributed Technology. Hevner's areas of research interest include design-science research, information-systems development, software engineering, distributed-database systems, healthcare systems and Internet of Things computing. He has published more than 200 research papers on these topics and has consulted for a number of Fortune 500 companies. Hevner received doctorate in computer science from Purdue University and has held faculty positions at the University of Maryland and the University of Minnesota. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems (AIS). He is a member of ACM, IEEE, and INFORMS. Additional honors include selection as a Parnas Fellow at Lero, the Irish software research center and a Schoeller Senior Fellow at Friedrich Alexander University in Germany. He also is a recipient of the Design Science Research Lifetime Achievement Award. From 2006-09, he served as a program manager at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Directorate.
