This bookcomprehensively presents the computational design of rolling bearings dealingwith many interdisciplinary difficult working fields. They encompasselastohydrodynamics (EHD), Hertzian contact theory, oil-film thickness in elastohydrodynamiclubrication (EHL), bearing dynamics, tribology of surface textures, fatigue failuremechanisms, fatigue lifetimes of rolling bearings and lubricating greases, Weibull distribution, rotor balancing, and airborne noises (NVH) in the rolling bearings.Furthermore, the readers are provided with hands-on essential formulas based onthe up-to-date DIN ISO norms and helpful examples for computational design ofrolling bearings.

The topics are intended for undergraduate and graduate students inmechanical and material engineering, research scientists, and practicingengineers who want to understand the interactions between these working fieldsand to know how to design the rolling bearings for automotive industry and manyother industries.

Dr. Hung Nguyen-Schäfer is a senior technical manager in development of electric machines for hybrid and electric vehicles at EM-motive GmbH, a joint company of Daimler and Bosch in Germany. He has nearly 30 years of experience in automotive industry at Robert Bosch GmbH, Bosch Mahle Turbosystems, and EM- motive. His working areas are gasoline and diesel direct injection systems, fuel supply components, anti-breaking systems, fuel-cell vehicles, automotive turbochargers, hybrid, and electric vehicles. He is also the author of three professional books: Aero and Vibro-acoustics of Automotive Turbochargers. Springer Berlin-Heidelberg (2013) Tensor Analysis and Elementary Differential Geometry for Physicists and Engineers. Springer Berlin-Heidelberg (2014) Rotordynamics of Automotive Turbochargers, Second Edition. Springer Berlin-Heidelberg (2015)
