The book begins by identifying the technological features from which security issues arise. It describes how the Internet may be compromised by malware and examines some of the more common security issues. It looks at aspects of human persuasion, consumer choice, and how these affect cybersecurity.
"In Human Dimensions of Cyber Security, Terry Bossomaier, Steven D’Alessandro, and Roger Bradbury have produced a book that … shows how it is indeed possible to achieve what we all need; a multidisciplinary, rigorously researched and argued, and above all accessible account of cybersecurity — what it is, why it matters, and how to do it."

--Professor Paul Cornish, Visiting Professor, LSE IDEAS, London School of Economics

Human Dimensions of Cybersecurity explores social science influences on cybersecurity. It demonstrates how social science perspectives can enable the ability to see many hazards in cybersecurity. It emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary approach, as cybersecurity has become a fundamental issue of risk management for individuals, at work, and with government and nation states.

This book explains the issues of cybersecurity with rigor, but also in simple language, so individuals can see how they can address these issues and risks. The book provides simple suggestions, or cybernuggets, that individuals can follow to learn the dos and don’ts of cybersecurity.

The book also identifies the most important human and social factors that affect cybersecurity. It illustrates each factor, using case studies, and examines possible solutions from both technical and human acceptability viewpoints.

Professor Terry Bossomaier set up the Centre for Research in Complex Systems, CRiCS, at Charles Sturt University to integrate numerous areas of research, from neuroscience to parallel computing and information theory. He is the co-author of numerous academic papers and five research-oriented books. Dr Steven D’Alessandro is a professor in the School of Management and Marketing at Charles Sturt University. Steve has published 113 refereed papers in leading international journals (including The European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, International Marketing Review, Psychology and Marketing, Marketing Letters, Journal of Services Marketing, Journal of Macromarketing, International Journal of Consumer Studies, Food Quality and Preference, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Accounting and Finance, and Journal of Environmental Management and Applied Economics), books, and conferences. Steve has also worked as a market research consultant for bluechip companies such as Pacific-Dunlop, ANZ, Challenge Bank, BHP, Telstra, and Ford. He has published some market-leading textbooks on Market Research, Consumer Behaviour and Services Marketing. Steve was chief investigator of the Cooperative Research Centre Cybersecurity of $140 million Australian dollars in 2017. He is currently coeditor of the Journal of Consumer Behaviour. Steve would again like to dedicate this book to his wife, Michelle D’Alessandro, the real cyber expert in his family. Professor Roger Bradbury began his career as an ecologist, where he developed a long-term interest in complex systems. He left academia to work in government, in the Office of National Assessment with high-level security clearance, amongst other departments. Following retirement from government, he took up a professorship at the National Security College at the Australian National University.
