Deep Learning with Text is a practitioner's guide that will help you learn how the neural networks that power modern natural language processing techniques work "under the hood." You'll find examples using "batteries-included" libraries in Python--including spaCy, gensim, and others--for applying this modern, deep learning approach to solve real-world problems with natural language text.
Until now, much of the published material about deep learning has been sequestered in research papers and graduate-level academic textbooks. This practical book will enable software developers and data scientists to build new products and systems that have only become possible in the past couple of years.
Patrick started the Data Science team at S&P Global Market Intelligence, a business and financial intelligence firm and data provider, and serves in the role of Lead Data Scientist there. Working in a major company for which data is both the primary raw material and finished product provides an unusually broad, target-rich environment for data scientists. The Data Science team at S&P GMI employs a wide variety of data science tools and techniques, including machine learning, natural language processing, recommender systems and graph analytics, among others. Prior to joining S&P Global Market Intelligence, Patrick received degrees in Economics (BA) and Systems Engineering (MS), both at the University of Virginia. His graduate research focused on complex systems and agent-based modeling. Matthew is a leading expert in AI technology, known for his research, software and writings. He completed his PhD in 2009, and spent a further 5 years publishing research on state-of-the-art natural language understanding systems. Anticipating the AI boom, he left academia in 2014 to develop spaCy, an open-source library for industrial-strength NLP.
