The Engineering Design Centre at City University has developed a design system called "Design Function Deployment" (DFD). This text describes traditional design processes, identifies why a comprehensive design system is required, and explains the development of DFD and how it is implemented.
With the increasing number and complexity of products and the demand to develop them in much reduced timescales, designers are being introduced to new approaches in design, such as mechatronics and concurrent engineering.
