Vincent Pegoraro is a scientific author whose research interests lie in digital image synthesis, and more specifically in physically-based rendering, on which he has published in the fields of both computer graphics and scientific visualization, and with experience across both academia and industry. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the Multimodal Computing and Interaction (M2CI) Cluster of Excellence, in affiliation with the Computer Graphics Laboratory (CGUdS) within the department of computer science at Saarland University, Germany, where he (co-)instructed the courses on ray-tracing, computer graphics and realistic image synthesis for several years. Dr. Pegoraro earned a PhD degree in computer science from the University of Utah, USA in 2009, where he investigated efficient computational methods for the simulation of light transport in participating media at the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute and in collaboration with the Center for the Simulation of Accidental Fires and Explosions (C-SAFE). During that time, he also interned in the R&D department of Lucasfilm Ltd. - Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), CA, USA, and developed movie-production tools for volume rendering. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked as a research engineer at the Center for Integration of Medicine & Innovative Technology (CIMIT), MA, USA, on a real-time rendering engine and other graphics components of a virtual training system for interventional radiology procedures, and before that, interned at Lille Laboratory of Fundamental Computer Science (LIFL), France, in affiliation with the National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation (INRIA), where he implemented techniques for stereoscopic display in a medical simulator for cataract surgery.
