This book constitutes the proceedings of the 12th European Conference on Modelling Foundations and Applications, ECMFA 2016, held as part of STAF 2016, in Vienna, Austria, in July 2016.

The 16 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 47 submissions. The committee decided to accept 16 papers, 12 papers for the Foundations Track and 4 papers for the Applications Track. Papers on a wide range of MBE aspects were accepted, including topics such as multi- and many models, language engineering, UML and meta-modeling, experience reports and case studies, and variability and uncertainty.

Hierarchical Clustering of Metamodels for Comparative Analysis and Visualization.- Advanced Local Checking of Global Consistency in Heterogeneous Multimodeling.- Supporting the Linked Data Approach to Maintain Coherence across Rich EMF Models.- Stress-Testing Centralised Model Stores.- Compositional Language Engineering Using Generated, Extensible, Static Type-Safe Visitors.- Demystifying Ontological Classification in Language Engineering.- Example-based Generation of Graphical Modelling Environments.- UML and Meta-modeling Associations in MDE: A Concern-Oriented, Reusable Solution.- Automated Metamodel/Model Co-Evolution Using a Multi-Objective Optimization Approach.- Enabling OCL and fUML Integration by Transformation.- Isolating and Reusing Template Instances in UML.- Experience Reports and Case Studies MBF4CR: A Model-Based Framework for Supporting An Automated Cancer Registry System.- Metamodeling vs Metaprogramming: A Case Study on Developing Client Libraries for REST APIs.- Experiences with Model-driven Engineering in Neurorobotics.- Supporting Variability Exploration and Resolution during Model Migration 208.- Understanding Uncertainty in Cyber-Physical Systems: A Conceptual Model.
