PAOLO MALANIMA holds a PhD from the Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, Italy, and is Director of the Institute of Studies on Mediterranean Societies of the National Research Council (ISSM-CNR), in Naples. He is author of articles and books on European economic history.
