THE LEARNING EQUATION (TLE) is Standards-based, interactive, multimedia courseware for learner-focused mathematics courses taught on campus, off campus, or a combination of both. Reliable and flexible, TLE allows instructors to manage their courses from any computer, anywhere, anytime, while allowing students to learn and be tracked from any location. The only product of its kind that runs on both Windows(R) and Macintosh (R) computers, TLE is designed to replace the traditional textbook and lecture, addressing all student learning styles. Using a Guided Inquiry approach, students construct their own understanding of concepts and build problem solving skills in a highly interactive, easy-to-use environment. At no cost to the adopting institution, instructors order and students purchase the non-time locked software and workbook just like any textbook. Upon adoption and student purchase for at least one section of one course each semester, the institution may install TLE on all campus-owned computers, allowing any student to use this $10,000,000 courseware product at no cost while on campus. Because the software is not time locked and because there is no site license fee for adopting institutions, students who drop the course one semester can return to that course later without having to pay for the use of the software again. The course management system includes a syllabus manager for customizing curriculum, a fully integrated grade book, and a free-response, completely customizable testing system that algorithmically generates a virtually unlimited number of exercises for print and on line practice and assessment.
