About the Authors Galen Gruman is the executive editor of Upside magazine and the coauthor of 11 books on desktop publishing, including Macworld QuarkXPress 4 Bible and PageMaker 6.5 For Dummies Internet Edition, as well as a contributor to The PC Bible, 3rd Edition. Originally a news reporter and editor, Gruman got caught by the production-technology bug in 1979 and hasn't recovered. He led one of the first successful conversions of a national magazine to desktop publishing in 1986 and has covered publishing technology since then for several publications, including the trade weekly Info World, for which he began writing in 1986; Macworld, whose staff he joined in 1991 and for which was executive editor from 1994 to 1998; and the magazines Magazine Design & Production and Publish. John Cruise is a Denver-based technical writer and editor who has written numerous magazine articles and two books -- Macworld QuarkXPress 4 Bible and QuarkXPress 4 For Dummies -- about desktop publishing. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was a managing editor at Quark, Inc., and later worked as editor of X-Ray Magazine, a publication for users of publishing software products. He is currently teaching graphic design and doing technical writing, editing, and consulting for several software companies. Kelly Kordes Anton develops documentation and marketing materials for high-end Macintosh publishing products, copy-edits and writes for Denver-area magazines, and provides QuarkXPress training. A veteran of Quark, Inc., she started on the QuarkXPress 3.2 team and eventually led the development of the QuarkXPress 4.0 documentation. She has developed training materials for Quark, provided technical review for several QuarkXPress books, and is a coauthor of the book Using QuarkXPress. Continual involvement with magazine publishers and students keeps her firmly entrenched in the day-to-day realities of publishing. Her main interest, however, is her three-year-old son Robert, who has known the difference between "good" and "well" for more than a year.
