Sams Teach Yourself XML in 21 Days provides a comprehensive introduction to XML for application programmers.
Sams Teach Yourself XML in 21 Days, Second Edition is a completely rewritten edition but remains a tutorial-based introduction to XML. The book begins explaining the basics, proceeds into structuring and processing with namespaces, XLink, SAX, DOM, and XSLT, and then to presentation and data exchange with displaying in the browser and transferring data. The author provides an appendix with some of the current 'tools of the trade' to bring the reader up to speed on tools available and how to use them.

Devan Shepherd has more than 25 years of progressive experience in the Information Technology industry as a developer, consultant, solutions provider, instructor, public speaker, and senior executive. He has designed college-level curricula and taught XML technologies, HTML, scripting languages, Web development, and a wide variety of traditional programming languages at the college level. Devan currently speaks about XML at industry trade shows and runs his own consulting practice focusing on the delivery of e-business solutions, training and systems integration. He spent many years as Director of IT and Chief Technical Officer for various companies in the public and private sector, with extensive experience in the fields of health care, defense, banking, legal and medico/legal litigation support. A self-proclaimed "e-workaholic," Devan cherishes any available free time to spend with his wife and children pursuing decidedly "non-e" activities.
