This two volume boxed set is a guide to the rapidly changing and growing area of digital publishing, including print, portable digital documents, CD-ROM, multimedia, Web publishing and more. It includes 16 pages of four-colour images to illustrate the colour management section of the work.
The digital publishing industry finally has a single, up-to-date source for authoritative information on every aspect of digital publishing: techniques, technologies, media, workflow, and beyond! In this unprecedented two-volume set, the world's foremost authority on digital publishing offers new insight into everything from typography to virtual reality, color models to e-books. Volume I starts by introducing key typographic concepts, rules of thumb, formats, and issues for desktop typography users; then introduces effective design, layout, and page creation techniques for both print and screen. You'll find detailed coverage of desktop publishing, word processing, composition, indexing, and database publishing; and a complete guide to digital imaging, creation, capture, and use. Finally, Kleper introduces expert PostScript and PDF techniques for creating effective electronic files for both prepress and Web delivery. Volume II begins by demystifying color management, introducing concepts and theory as well as real-world systems and applications, both print and online.
Next, Kleper reviews every key issue associated with digital workflow, including data flow, job engineering, asset management, connectivity, and networking. He offers start-to-finish guidance and insight for new media developers, covering digital audio and video, 3D modeling, animation, VRML, CD-ROM, DVD, and more. He covers the Web publishing process in exceptional depth, covering site planning, components, development techniques, even promotion. Finally, Kleper offers realistic guidance for anyone seeking a career in Web publishing, design, or electronic media.

MICHAEL KLEPER is full professor and member of the Senior Faculty in the Digital Imaging and Publishing Technology Department at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He has 30 years of college teaching and research experience in print, desktop, and electronic publishing, electronic prepress, typography, and page creation. His seven books include The Illustrated Handbook of Desktop Publishing and Typesetting, Second Edition.
