This set assembles hardcover editions of four Java references: "Java in a Nutshell, 3rd Edition"; "Java Examples in a Nutshell, 2nd Edition"; "Java Enterprise in a Nutshell"; and "Java Foundation Classes in a Nutshell".
"The Java Professional Library" contains hardcover editions of four Java references. "Java in a Nutshell" is a quick reference for all Java programmers. This accelerated introduction to the Java language and its key APIs allows seasoned programmers to start writing code right away. The third edition covers Java 1.2 and Java 1.3. "Java Examples in a Nutshell, 2nd Edition" provides Java programming examples that developers can both learn from and modify for their own use. The second edition covers Java 1.3 and contains 164 complete, practical examples: over 17,900 lines of densely commented, professionally written Java code covering 20 distinct Java API's, including Servlets, JavaServer Pages, XML, Swing, and Java 2D. "Java Enterprise in a Nutshell", is O'Reilly's quick reference for all of the classes in the various packages that comprise the Enterprise APIs, such as JDBC, RMI, Java IDL, Servlets, JNDI, and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB). Finally, "Java Foundation Classes in a Nutshell" is a companion volume to "Java in a Nutshell" for programmers who write applications that use graphics or graphical user interfaces.
This introduction to the Java APIs that comprise the Java Foundation Classes (JFC) is also a quick reference to all of the classes in the javax.swing and java.awt packages and their numerous subpackages.

David Flanagan is a computer programmer who spends most of his time writing about Java. David has a degree in computer science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His other O'Reilly titles include the bestselling JavaScript: The Definitive Guide. Jim Farley is a software engineer, computer scientist and IT manager. His recent activities have included heading up the engineering group at the Harvard Business School, and bringing good things to life at GE's Research and Development Center. Jim has B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science and engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. William Crawford got involved in web development back in 1995. He has worked with a large variety of institutional clients, including Boston's Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical Center and several Fortune 500 companies. Will currently heads the product development team at Invantage, Inc., a Cambridge, Massachusetts, company developing Java-based intranet tools. Kristopher Magnussen is the open source programs architect at Novell. He edited the original Java Directory Service Interface for JavaSoft in 1996, worked on the Novell JNDI design team, and wrote JNDI sample code and tutorials. He has a B.S. from the University of Utah in economics and loves object-oriented design and computing.
