A guide for students and researchers through the often daunting process of analyzing data. Using a friendly style and minimal statistical and mathematical jargon, the author shows how to use the leading social science data analysis program, SPSS for Windows. The manual can be used as an in-class text, and also as a teach-yourself instruction manual, by both undergraduate and postgraduate students. It considers the entire research process, from the formulation of research questions, design of the study, and analysis of data to reporting the results. Students are also guided through the decision-making process of choosing the right statistical technique for their projects. The guide covers the key basic and advanced statistical techniques. Each technique is outlined clearly, with issues relating to its use and additional references for further reading, assumptions that need to be checked, step-by-step procedures for performing the analysis, a detailed guide to interpreting the SPSS output and an example of how to present the results in a report. The book is accompanied by a website with sample data, hotlinks, extra information and an instructor's manual.
