The BlackBerry is cool, and the BlackBerry is fun, but the BlackBerry also means serious business. For those of you who bought your BlackBerry to help get your life organized and free yourself from the ball-and-chain of desktop computing, BlackBerry for Work: Productivity for Professionals is the book to show you how. There are plenty of general-purpose BlackBerry guides, but this book shows you how to complete all the traditional smartphone tasks, like to-dos, calendars, and email, and become even more efficient and productive. You'll learn mechanisms for developing effective workflows specific to the features of the BlackBerry and also efficient strategies for dealing with the specialized aspects of business and professional lifestyles.

After giving a professionally targeted introduction to the built-in applications and configuration options, this book details the BlackBerry's enterprise features. This book also delves into App World, the BlackBerry's source for third-party software. It discusses some of the best business and vertical applications, and shows you how to take advantage of this wealth of add-ons and professional functionality.

  • The only business-specific guide to the BlackBerry.
  • Improve your productivity with innovative mobile workflows that free you from the desktop.
  • Make the BlackBerry work for you so you can work better.

The authors of BlackBerry for Work have decided to direct their share of the proceeds from the book to a charity in India. The Mitr Foundation is a trust founded in the city of Hyderabad, with the objective of contributing its might towards the empowerment of the girl child through education. Somewhere between the elite and the underprivileged lies the core essence of our endeavor. Shikha Gupta has pledged to undertake the responsibility of educating three children.

Kunal Mittal is a consultant specializing in Java technology, the J2EE platform, Web services, and service-oriented architecture technologies. He has co-authored and contributed to several books on these topics. Kunal is working on a BEA Portal project for Sony Pictures Entertainment.

"Google Apps on Your BlackBerry (p. 153-154)

Growth with Excitement Abundant…

This experimental venture started by two students has grown beyond a mere search engine and continues to take the world by storm. “Just ‘Google’ it, will you?” has become a common part of world lingo. The word “google” might have become synonymous with search but that has not stopped the company from venturing into other avenues to provide a bundle of applications and software solutions, meeting personal and professional needs with equal ease. BlackBerry’s integration with Google Mobile Application suite comes as a reminder of its commitment to provide its users with the best available.

The Google Advantage

Small businesses across the world are turning to Google Apps for a complete solution. Educational institutions find the Google solution cost-effective and user friendly, appealing to both students and faculty alike. Entrepreneurs belonging to various industries like design and animation, media, culinary, shipment, and business have discovered the Google advantage. Some of the most obvious benefits are the following:

- Universal: Google is a universal brand today and that cannot be argued against. Work cultures around the globe use it, either in professional or personal capacity. Thus its technology isn’t alien to anybody, irrespective of culture or geographical location.

- Cost-effective: The solutions offered by Google are far more costeffective than most others available in the market, hence making it an instant hit with small businesses and other management.

- Centralized: Google minimizes issues that arise from incompatibility of versions and copy as everyone connects to the same server, thus reducing differences between regional offices in various parts of the world.

- User satisfaction: Once a Google user, always a Google user holds true, because the user satisfaction and convenience it offers remain unparalleled.

- Flexibility: The cloud computing technology adopted by Google gives its users the flexibility to work on their documents and files from anywhere. Content can be accessed from home and office alike. This advantage is of great value to the travelling professional, for obvious enough reasons.

- Internet standards: Google maintains and uses internet standards, thus allowing world-wide compatibility.

- Sizeable storage: Google’s great capacity has and will be one of its biggest USPs. Not only is it beneficial to the corporate user, but is also very attractive to the student and aspiring professional.

- Collaborate: Collaboration with other users working on the same document simultaneously can be a very valuable feature. Real time changes are accessible along with histories so that changes in documents and calendars are clear and comprehensible."
