This title helps readers learn the functionality, benefits and implementation steps of Windows NT security. This survey of security options is written for the developer who must create effective NT security functions, and the administrator who needs to explain the use and advantages of security procedures. The book includes: descriptions of the fundamentals of NT security operations; explanations of the crucial administrative advantages of robust security; methods for automating administration; and a companion disk, with sample tools for managing NT security. This is a guide for developers experienced in building applications, but who have not yet found their way through the muddle of confusing NT security programming options. Developers learn how the Win32 APIs work, and how to directly manipulate security processes. Additionally, author Nik Okuntseff demonstrates how to develop C++ classes to encapsulate security functions, so developers can provide administrators and users with easy-to-use security operations. These classes automate many of the administrator functions that were neglected by Microsoft.

Nik Okuntseff is a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer with Infowave Software Inc., a company that specializes in secure, wireless communication solutions for corporations. He is involved in several activities including implementing MAPI-based components, Microsoft Exchange server programming, clientserver development, and Windows NT system development. He is also responsible for research and development work on several wireless networks, including Mobitex and CDPD. Nik formerly worked for the Russian Academy of Sciences after graduating from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and has recently authored Windows NT Security.
