This volume is based on the Workshop on Systems Biology of Tumor Dormancy meeting, held July 25th to July 28th, 2011. The first annual CCSB workshop brought together biologists, clinicians, mathematicians, and computer scientists to discuss various aspects of tumor dormancy and develop novel mathematical/computational models with the keynote speakers. Specific topics included the angiogenic switch, immune system interactions, cancer stem cells and signaling.

Foreword.- Preface.- Part 1: Angiogenesis.- Genes and Regulatory Pathways Involved in Persistence of Dormant Micro-Tumors.- The Host Support Niche as a Control Point for Tumor Dormancy – Implications for Tumor Development and Beyond.- Insights into the Regulation of Tumor Dormancy by Angiogenesis in Experimental Tumors.- Part 2: Stem Cells and Signaling Pathways.- Cancer Stem Cells and Tumor Dormancy.- Regulation of Tumor Cell Dormancy by Tissue Microenvironments and Autophagy.- Tumor Dormancy, Oncogene Addiction, Cellular Senescence and Self Renewal Programs.- Part 3: Immune System.- Multifaceted Kinetics of Immuno-Evasion from Tumor Dormancy.- Tumor Dormancy and Cancer Stem Cells: Two Sides of the Same Coin?.- Tumor Dormncy: Long-Term Survival in a Hostile Environment.- A Review of Mathematical Models of Cancer-Immune Interactions in the Context of Tumor Dormancy.- Part 4: Mathematical Biosciences and Dynamical Systems Modeling.- Regulation of Tumor Dormancy and Role of Microenvironment: A Mathematical Model.- Seeing the Invisible.- How Mathematical Models Uncover Tumor Dormancy, Reconstruct the Natural History of Cancer, and Assess the Effects of Treatment.- Index.
