In this book the mathematical foundations of coordinate systems are presented, as well as their practical application to different branches of mathematics, natural and engineering sciences. A thorough discussion of the mathematical theory is provided, together with numerous applications taken from the fields of physics and geodesy, all illustrated by selected examples.
Several related problems are treated, among them some previously unpublished numerical integration methods. The book includes an extensive formulary, consisting of about 40 tables concerning different types of coordinates. They contain directly applicable information about some of the most important features in a unified notational system.
