Gender statistics is a new field that cuts across all traditional statistical fields and pertains to the entire statistical system. The main requirement for the production and dissemination of statistics that reflect the realities of women and men is that users and producers work together to identify the issues to be addressed and the necessary statistical output . The seminar on Gender statistics follows a trend set in earlier seminars organised by the CEIES subcommittee on Social Statistics to discuss in depth social issues that require input from various statistical fields. Precursors are the seminar on Social Exclusion (1999), Education and Training Statistics and the Functioning of the Labour Market (2000), Life Long Learning (2001) Active Ageing Statistics (spring 2002), Labour Market Statistics towards enlargement (autumn 2002) and Social Protection Statistics (autumn 2003).
