Myths and legends capture the intensity of human experience – but there are gaps in the stories. Thoroughly relatable, Later, Icarus uncovers what happens beyond the headlines, in the aftermath. These are the voices of ordinary people in poetry – the legends and the forgotten – as they reveal their own truths, and experience what comes next
‘Icarus swam ashore
Bedraggled, humiliated’

Myths and legends capture the fragility and intensity of human experience – but there are gaps between the stories people hold to be true and how it feels to witness these moments or live them.

Thoroughly relatable, Later, Icarus uncovers what happens beyond the headlines, in the aftermath.

All at once evoking a classical epilogue and a beautifully personal story of the everyday, these are the voices of ordinary people in poetry – the legends and the forgotten – as they reveal their own truths, and experience what comes next

‘Now appears a vast, exquisite silence.
From this peaceful place
The view is long
The silence vibrates’

Elizabeth McManus is a poet and artist of Irish and Scottish descent, living in the north west of England. She read English at Hertford College, Oxford, before a career spent working with organisations to foster constructive workplaces in public and private sectors.    Now committed to full time creative practice, her poetry and artworks explore ways to convey that each person and their story has dignity, that every day is precious and that life is a vivid and significant experience.
