This book is the first of a three-part series. Although it was written during the 2012 election cycle, it is more relevant now than ever. The United States is a divided country that appears to be headed towards a civil war.  However, if we can put aside our preconceived ideologies and work to understand each other, how and why we think as we do, we can change our tolerances and work together to heal our nation and move us forward beyond what our founding fathers ever imagined.  The future is ours to grasp, and the events in this book do not have to happen. For instance, in the years since this was written, the dynamics of the Miami area have changed.  Nothing is written in stone; we can still work together to build a better future for the  United States and the world, one understanding thought at a time.

As the election cycle winds down, the final Presidential Debate is held at a university in Washington. The date of this event is October 28, 2036. It is a much anticipated event, as the very existence of the United States is at stake. Many people are acutely aware of how their lives will be completely changed in the upheaval that could soon take place.
The debate features two candidates, the moderator, and an audience. The moderator opens the debate excitedly: “Welcome to the third and final Presidential Debate, here in Washington, just one week before the election on November 4th. Based on the drastic change in government on the ballot, this may be the very most important debate ever held in history of the United States. As you know, if President Isaac Wolfe is voted in for his third term, we will abolish all future elections and nullify the United States Constitution, along with our current form of government, and we will become a socialist nation under the leadership of ‘Czar Wolfe.’” He pauses for a moment and then continues with his introduction: “And, if Governor Jim Taylor wins, we get a new President. President Wolfe, as the incumbent President, you have the honor of going first. Our opening question tonight is: ‘If you are elected, what are your plans for the first few months of transition?’ In other words, what will it be like?”
Jim quickly interrupts the moment before Isaac has had a chance to speak: “Yes, Mr. President, what will it be like for the American people?”
The moderator, who is annoyed with Jim’s impolite behavior, patiently redirects the attention back to the President with the reprimand, “It's not your turn to speak, Governor. Please follow the debate rules.” Jim apologizes, and the moderator continues before turning the microphone over to Isaac: “Please, Mr. President, let's hear your thoughts.”
Isaac begins to speak immediately: “Well, I would like to begin by thanking everyone here in the state of Washington, and everyone at this university and everyone involved in this debate. And thank you, sir, for agreeing to moderate this debate.”
The moderator happily answers him, “My pleasure, Mr. President!”
Isaac then goes on to answer the question: “Well, it won't be perfect, but it will be exciting! Changing from capitalism to socialism is a natural process, as Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels explained to us in The Communist Manifesto. But, it will require logistics. For example, the government will have to seize control of private enterprise, and we will have to appoint government employees to run everything. This is going to be a huge transition, but it is one that needs to be made, and it will be an exciting time in American history! In order to be most beneficial to society, the government will place everyone in the job that best suits their abilities, thus eliminating the oftentimes stressful decision of which career path to choose and, worse yet, joblessness. We will also be instituting a 250-square-foot maximum living space for each person, thereby eliminating homelessness. Every single individual and every family will be placed in homes to match their needs. Of course, all guns will be taken away, and all the necessities, such as food and gas, will be rationed so that everyone will have the same status and wealth. All money will be seized by the government and rendered worthless, so that everyone will finally have equal status and be happy. I have been working on this plan for the last seven years, and I believe it can and will be executed perfectly by my outstanding staff, with minimal disruptions to the lives of American citizens.”
The audience cheers wildly, and the moderator works to calm down the crowd. “Bravo, Mr. President, this sounds like a perfect plan! Governor Taylor, you have two minutes to comment.”
Jim is greatly disappointed by the crowd’s reaction and addresses them: “Has everyone lost their minds? This is communism! This is what Russia did. The United States is built on freedoms: freedom of religion and freedom to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.”
Isaac interrupts Jim, “That is what we are giving everyone.” The audience cheers even more wildly, giving Isaac a standing ovation.
Jim continues with his rebuttal: “Excuse me, it's my turn now.” The audience surprisingly becomes calm and sits down.
The moderator points out, “You have thirty seconds left, Governor.”
Jim continues: “We cannot move to a socialist society; it's not in our genetics. We have always been rebels. From fleeing tyranny in the Church to fleeing tyranny in England, we are made to be a free people. We will not survive the turn to socialism. America, I plead with you, do not allow this so-called liberal, socialist, communistic agenda to be passed next week! Vote for me, vote for America, vote for your freedom!”
Jim’s response, including interruptions, takes 2-1/2 minutes, so the moderator reprimands him again, saying: “You went over your two-minute allotment, Governor Taylor. I should not have to remind you again. Please follow the time clock to your left. You went over, and this will not be tolerated.”
Time passes, and the moderator offers another question: “Ok, Governor, for the next question, you will start first. President Wolfe, you will then have two minutes to comment. The question is: ‘We know that under President Wolfe’s plan, unemployment will be eliminated, as everyone will be given a job, working for the government. What will you do for the unemployed if you are elected?’”
Jim answers with: “There’s always a percentage of people, outliers, who just don't want to work. That's 3% of Americans who will never want to work. Those are statistics. My plan is to have an economy that will grow by providing jobs for everyone who wants them and to bring manufacturing back to companies owned in the US, and to stop this import garbage that has ruined our country. American businessmen and -women taking pride in their country and bringing jobs and ownership back to America, not because the government tells them to, but because they want to. That will result in a restoration of American pride. If we restore our people's faith in this great country, we will also make things happen here. Businesses will make money here, and foreign businesses will want to come here and negotiate to do business with American-owned companies. We have the greatest land in the world. We have oil, cotton, and good crops, everything we need to be self-sufficient. This is a land blessed by God, for God-fearing people who love this country. God, country, and family: that’s what this great nation is all about!”
The moderator turns from Jim to Isaac and tells him, “Mr. President, you have two minutes, sir, to comment.”
Isaac turns to Jim and asks, “Governor Taylor, how dare you say that 3% of Americans just don't want to work? What right do you have to judge their hearts and what they feel? The reason we have unemployment is that free enterprise is a failed system. Everyone wants to work and do a good job. The problem is, the rich business owners and managers take from the poor and work people too many hours a week, on the shades of slave labor, so that they don't have to hire more Americans, and so they can pad their pockets and laugh at the plight of less affluent people.” The audience interrupts Isaac with wild cheering and a standing ovation. Isaac motions for the people to be seated, but the cheering goes on for approximately thirty seconds, and then the audience returns to their seats. “Under my system, everyone will only work seven hours a day, five days a week. The only people working on the weekends will be emergency personnel, such as doctors.” Although he is nearing the two minute mark, Isaac continues: “This will allow for peace and happiness for all, the pure Utopian Society. Furthermore, as I mentioned previously, there will be no unemployment, as the government will assign a job to every single person.” (The clock shows more than two minutes have passed, and Jim points to the clock. The moderator shakes his head at Jim.) Isaac continues uninterrupted: “Governor Taylor is right in that we do have a self-sufficient land, but we need to have a central point of authority, which will be the federal government, in order to fully utilize our great resources. We should not only share these with everyone in our country, but also with the world. We will have pride back in our country alright. Everyone will love their country, and the world will love us. It's a win-win.”
Jim shakes his head in response to Isaac’s lack of timeliness. Isaac’s response, including interruptions, takes approximately 3-1/2 minutes. The moderator is absolutely thrilled by Isaac’s response and thanks him for sharing his great insight.
The debate continues on for a little while. Eventually, the moderator asks Isaac about the national deficit, prefacing the question with observations regarding...
