King started recording in the late 1940s, he has released more than 50 albums, many of them considered classics, and has become the most renowned blues musician of the past 40 years. The recipient of numerous honours, he has been nominated for 24 Grammy Awards and was given a Lifetime Achievement Grammy in 1987. In 1990, he received the Presidential Medal of the Arts. He was an award recipient at the Kennedy Center in 1995. In1996, he published his autobiography, Blues All Around Me, with coauthor David Ritz.

Dick Waterman, a leading journalist and photographer was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2000. His first book, Between Midnight and Day: the Last Unpublished Blues Archive, was published in 2003.
