At the Athens Olympics in 2004, Leslie Law was not one of the favourites for the gold medal in the three day event but his own excellent performance and the subsequent disqualification of the German competitor brought him the ultimate prize. Law has served a long apprenticeship in his sport and his path to the top has been marred by misfortune and sadness. This book begins with Law as a schoolboy with a passion for horses and ends with his Olympic triumph. Written with Gillian Newsum the Equestrian writer for Country Life, Leslie Law's story will be a must-have for all lovers of his sport.

Gillian Newsum has been the Equestrian Writer for Country Life for 18 years, and Equestrian Correspondent for the Guardian for the last three years. She is the author of a number of highly-acclaimed equestrian books including Training the Sport Horse (with Christopher Bartle, J. A. Allen, 2004), Milton (Kenilworth Press, 1991), Murphy Himself and Glenburnie (Kenilworth Press, 1992), Mark Todd's Cross Country Handbook (Kenilworth Press, 1991, also US and Dutch editions), Charisma (with Mark Todd, Threshold Books, 1989), Dressage for the Event Horse (with Ferdi Eilberg, Kenilworth Press, 1993) and Women and Horses (The Sportman's Press, 1988). Gillian is a keen rider, and has competed at Novice level at affiliated horse trials. She is married with three daughters and lives in Cambridgeshire.
