When he came out the yellow painted office building of Municipal Committee of Discipline Inspection and Supervision (MCDIS), GreatWave Yu strode forward to parking lot, entered silver gray small Toyota, drove out of the municipal compound, went directly to WakeGarden in suburb.

WakeGarden was a retention place to keep officials under investigation by MCDIS of Talent City, formerly it was called SS place—-at specified time and specified place to talk about one's own problem. For two months, as a deputy chief presiding work for 6th investigation department, he had stayed at the place all the time, and was in charge of investigation of case of Justice Zhang. This was first retention case in the city since the reform of supervision system, as the organization gave him the case, that meant it was not only trust but also trial to him. He dared not to relax a bit in his efforts, put all his efforts into the case, worked with special group of the case for sixty days, and the case was essentially ascertained now.

When he arrived in WakeGarden, he parked his car, then first went to room No. 16 at 2nd floor of building 8, put clothes from his home into the room, stooped down to wipe out of dust on his brown shoes with cloth, tidied his suit and necktie, stretched his chest, then went out to the building 4. He liked sports since childhood, took part in soccer, dash, fencing, and Taekwondo, liked to wear loose and comfortable sports clothes and Anta sports shoe. Since he took a job in MCDIS, due to change of his work status, he wore suits all the time in his work hour. Particularly in the process of interrogation, wearing suit was not only showing his respect to the person being investigated, but also demonstrating mental attitude of employees of MCDIS to the work. Due to his broad and muscular shoulders and chest, when he wore suits, he looked tall, dignified, and handsome.

It was not far away between building 4 and 8. There were nine buildings in the place, all were gray brick and green tile structure, spreading across the place. The tall ones were ten storey, the lower ones were just two to three storey. Buildings one to three were all three storey buildings for administration and logistic, buildings four to six were all two storey buildings for retention purpose, buildings seven to nine were all ten storey buildings, and were living quarters for officials and auxiliary policemen working in the place. He would always stay at room 8216 when he came to the place, as it was easy to memorize the number due to eight times two equals sixteen, and people wouldn't go to wrong place if they came to talk with him for business.

When he arrived building 4, i.e., the retention and interrogation building, he took out of a card to swipe at the door, then entered the yard. In order to ensure safety of retained people, the security was extremely strict, high walls were built around the building with barb wires at the top. One had to swipe to enter the yard, one had to go through facial recognition to enter the building. Everyone who entering and exiting the building would leave detailed trails.

When he entered the hall, he swiped his card to open gray iron door at east side, then went to second floor to office of special case group for Justice Zhang, members of the group including ContinualRiver Xi were already waiting him. After brief discussion of the case, GreatWaves Yu said to ContinualRiver Xi:＂Let's go to see Justice Zhang now.＂

They went to downstairs, returned to the lobby, gave cell phones and keys to the security guard, passed through security check by auxiliary police, then opened gray iron door at the west side, entered the corridor of retention area in first floor. They came to the door of retention room for Justice Zhang, the administrator of the building swiped his card to open the door for them, then they entered the room.

The retention room was about twenty square meters. There was a little corridor in the room, and a toilet room at the side of the corridor.The toilet room was open without door, there were a cushioned toilet, a washbasin, and a shower in the room. At the end of the corridor, there was a small window high on the wall, through the window, one could see green leaves of the outside. The wall was gray cushioned one embedded with the party flag and oath to become a member. Under the flag and oath, there were two high back leather chairs and one low back leather chair, all were gray. There was a long narrow table in front of the chairs, which were for officials and guardians. There was a  round table and round stool under the wall across the long narrow table, which would be used for the retained person to receive interrogation and write materials. There was a folding bed under the wall across the high window, which could be laid down or erected.

When GreatWave Yu and ContinualRiver Xi entered the room, Justice Zhang was taking a nap in the bed, the auxiliary police on guard shouted:＂Hurry to get up, Chief Yu and Head Xi have arrived.＂ Justice Zhang said:＂Yes, Yes, Yes.＂ He stood up, tidied the quilt, erected the bed  into the wall with the help of two auxiliary policemen on duty to guard him.

Two auxiliary policemen went out and locked the door, GreatWave Yu sat in the chair under the flag and oath, asked:＂Justice Zhang, are you well for  last two days?＂  Justice Zhang said:＂Fine, fine.＂, while scratching his white hairs, he took a seat on the round stool obediently.

It was very interesting to watch retained people, when they were free, their hairs were as black as ink, but once they were kept in the room, their hairs would turn into white at once, and  were not fit to see. Some would say they turned into white in one night due to their anxiety. In fact that was just an exasperation. For people who were in power, they were experienced, reached certain age, were not young anymore, thus it was normal to have white hairs. But they had to take care of their brilliant images in front of people, thus they would dye their hairs to wheedle themselves, and to appear more vigorous in front of their subordinates. Once they lost freedom, there was no way for them to dye their hairs, thus it was not strange that they would return to their natural condition.

＂Today we won't have formal talk with you, we will just have a chat, you just sit at the leather chair.＂ Before Justice Zhang could sit down at the round stool, GreatWave Yu signaled ContinualRiver Xi to push the low back leather chair to Justice Zhang. Justice Zhang sat down at the chair obediently, put his hands on his legs, looked at GreatWave Yu with gratitude. GreatWave Yu said:＂Your case will be transferred to Prosecutor's Office, do you have anything else to tell us?＂ Justice Zhang said:＂ There is nothing more to say. I have already confessed what I know.＂

GreatWave Yu looked at him coldly, said:＂I don't intend to force you to confess anything as you still have old parents and young child, your couple have both been retained. If you have done any meritorious deed, they must be good to your dependents.＂ Justice Zhang sighed, and said:＂ We have to blame ourselves for being bribed, take what we have sowed, bear the consequence of the destruction of our good family.＂

GreatWave Yu had listened these words of his for over a dozen times, his ears had already gotten used these words, said:＂ You had better to think more, when you remember something, just tell the special group, the group will report to the organization to get leniency for you.＂

Justice Zhang seemed to understand the implication, said:＂I have stayed for two months here, gone over my life repeatedly, couldn't remember anything  which I am still concealing from the organization.＂ GreatWave Yu said:＂You deserve to receive punishment for what you have done, and you are not being wronged for a bit. But your wife is different, though she has received the bribes, the origin of the sin is from you. If you haven't broken the laws, how could she come to this end? In order to lessen the crimes of your wife, you should try to recall more things.＂

Justice Zhang was full of tears in his eyes, slapped his cheek by himself, while wailing, said:＂ I feel sorry for my wife, who support the family with hard works, but due to my fault, she is implicated and loses her freedom. I could only pay back the debt I owed to her in my next life.＂

GreatWave Yu changed a stern expression, shouted:＂Do we have next life? If you couldn't pay your debt in this life, how could anyone expect you pay back in next life, don't you try to evade your responsibility?＂ GreatWave Yu said:＂Furthermore, your son has suffered a lot through you.＂

When he heard about his son, Justice Zhang stood up unconsciously, asked hurriedly:＂Director Yu, please tell me, what's wrong with my son?＂

ContinualRiver Xi pointed at Justice Zhang, said:＂Justice Zhang, take your seat.＂Justice Zhang was looking at GreatWave Yu, and had not intention to sit down. GreatWave Yu said: ＂Your son has been hospitalized due to accident.＂ Justice Zhang suddenly rushed forward, took hands of GreatWave Yu in his, shook forcefully, said:＂Director Yu, please tell me, what's wrong with my son, he is admitted in which hospital, is his condition serious?＂

How could it not be serious? He nearly died of the fall. GreatWave Yu thought to himself, wanted to get Justice Zhang off him, but the snatch was too powerful for him to release the hands.
