Joseph Conrad, born Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski on December 3, 1857, in Berdychiv, Ukraine, then under the Russian Empire, was a master of English prose who brought to the literary canon a distinctive narrative style marked by his foreign roots and deep psychological insight.
