Thomas Holcroft (1745–1809) was an English dramatist, novelist, and translator, prominent for his literary contributions during the latter part of the 18th century. Born in London, Holcroft rose from a background of relative poverty and lack of formal education to become a central figure in the London literary scene. Holcroft's works often reflected his political beliefs; as a supporter of the principles of the French Revolution, he infused his writing with themes of social justice and reform.
