G. K. Chesterton, born Gilbert Keith Chesterton in London on May 29, 1874, was a prolific English writer, poet, philosopher, dramatist, journalist, orator, literary and art critic, biographer, and Christian apologist. Recognized for his towering figure and girth, he was a larger-than-life character in both physical presence and intellectual influence. Chesterton attended St Paul's School and later the Slade School of Art intending to pursue a career in illustration. Instead, writing became his primary vocation, spanning across a wide range of genres. He is often remembered for his fictional priest-detective character, Father Brown, who appeared in short stories that showcased his prowess in the mystery genre. However, Chesterton's work extended far beyond fiction. He was a masterful essayist and a central figure in early 20th-century literary circles, engaging in written exchanges with prominent thinkers of his time such as George Bernard Shaw and H. G. Wells. His notable works include 'The Everlasting Man,' 'Orthodoxy,' and 'The Man Who Was Thursday.'
