Janika is not aware of her situation of abuse and seems to have a very low self image of her gifts and abilities. Janika shares is a powerful tool for teachers to identify students with special needs. It's a welcome back to school story that would trigger a dissonant note in the hearts of all students but mainly initiate and empower one with silent pain to reach out for help. This story was inspired by the many at risk students in Hawaii and very likely after reading this, you the reader would feel the heart of someone right next to you who might be dealing with daily struggles similar to Janika.
