Selections include classic texts by such figures as Caesar, Suetonius, and Tacitus. The book contains Sallust's "Catiline", Suetonius' "Life of Caligula", and Augustus' "Autobiography" in their entirety.

Ronald Mellor is Professor of History at UCLA. Among his books are The Roman Historians, a survey and critical analysis of these writings, and Tacitus, which was a selection of the History Book Club. Both are published by Routledge.
