CHAPTER 1

“Has a myth been killed?” I ask myself, as I receive news about the death of a Merman. However, in this case it is the death of a merman who was part of an Amusement Park entertainment performance.

The man would dress like a Merman, with a tail, covered in scales and like the mythological God of the Sea Neptune, he would ride a mechanical shark and hold the Trident.

This man was a human being and he was no Poseidon, the God of the Sea, as he lay beheaded at the bottom of the large indoor lake, which was part of the “Poseidon Amusement Park” gala show.

The man was a well built middle-aged man with a very good physique, having been a body-builder in his younger days. Boris used to be a model after he retired from his modelling career.

If Justice was a person what would that person be like and how would that person live knowing that almost every second of every day there is injustice in the world.

Our Earth is not the only place where there is injustice. Injustice is a disease which originates in the mind of a being and which spreads like a virus till it contaminates the mind of a person, his friends, his family, the neighbourhood, the city and ultimately the world.

Injustice is a universal affliction of creation across time, space, worlds, galaxies and universes.

Why would someone murder a man who seemed harmless and who was a friend to so many people at his place of work?

Boris was a jolly man and he was the life of every party. He was a popular man and everyone wanted to get to know him. He had a charismatic personality and Boris was the type of person who would come out of his way to help people.

Boris may have never been Neptune the God of the Sea but he was adored by all who knew him and he ruled their hearts with his warmth and understanding.

The world had never seen a man so charitable, kind and understanding and now with his murder, such a man would never walk the face of the world again.

He was not a God, he was not a King, he was not a superhero but he was a kind and helpful human being.

Boris was the person who would share his meals, give half the money he earned at the amusement park to charities for Christmas. He was the sponsor of five children in his neighbourhood. He would pay for the education of all five children.

He was known to take care of any injured animals he would find on the roads, in the village or in the forests.

There were people who said that Boris loved animals and he had his own private zoo of rescued animals like cats, dogs, rabbits and birds like pigeons, ravens and owls.

The news networks are going crazy with the news about the Merman who was found beheaded at the Poseidon Amusement Park.

The park is losing its patrons and their children who are now all keeping away from the tourist spot.

A merman is found beheaded, who is next, Mermaids? Is just one of the headlines making the rounds of the newspaper tabloids.

There were photos of Boris the Merman plastered over all the newspapers.

All the news channels were covering the story. Some were doing biographies of the man who worked at the park over the last thirty years.

Who had killed Neptune, the God of the Sea at the Poseidon Amusement Park” was the question on everyone’s lips.

This story was one which was connected to the anger or hatred which led to the death of a man who was loved by all.

This story could be one of love and betrayal.

The story of the death of the merman could have greed as the motive or it could have hatred as the reason for the crime.

Was this the story of power, jealousy and hate?

The murder of the merman would have affected the lives of all those he knew whether directly or indirectly.

Why was the Merman murdered and why was the crime so brutal?

Was the crime carried out at this public place done by someone who was familiar with the area and by someone who knew how to carry out this crime?

It is possible, that such a crime was committed before by the murderer and that the murderer was never caught?

The method used to kill the victim was done with the skill and precision of a professional.

Was the purpose achieved by the perpetrator, after the man was killed?

CHAPTER 2

The Manager of the Park, an elderly man by the name of Simon Hosford had called upon the Paranormal and Special Investigations Crime Unit to solve the crime, with the help of the Storyteller.

Paranormal and Special Investigations Crime Unit (PSICU) work with the Storyteller to solve crimes in the cities on Earth in 2070.

The Storyteller is a Consultant at the PSICU and he is called when there is a crime which would need the special skills and abilities of the Storyteller to solve the crime.

No one knows the identity of the Storyteller.

The Director of the PSICU, Adam Gardner had been rescued by the Storyteller, when he was kidnapped and taken to the Dimension of Lost Souls.

I was at the library now telling stories as well as working as a Library-assistant at the Library which was a job I enjoyed.

It was always good to be working with books and with the knowledge and life experiences of thousands of minds.

Every book was a story of one person’s map of the world.

Every book was a chamber where the story of a person came alive in the imagination of another.

A book was the portal and the story was unveiled in the imagination of the reader.

I arrived at the scene of the crime.

I was dressed in the costume of the Storyteller.

My identity was concealed.

I was surveying the area for clues to the identity of the murderer.

The water was dark with the blood of the Merman Boris.

The body of the merman was removed from the lake.

The head was found later in the bushes at the far end of the lake and near the gates which led to the open sea beyond.

If the head of the murdered man happened to slip through the lake gates, which were a barrier from the open sea beyond, he would have surely lost his head to the sea.

I scanned the crime scene and got an idea of what had happened.

An octopus is the witness.

This octopus was not one which would be found in the sea or one kept in captivity, but a person wearing a costume and swimming in the waters like an octopus.

The octopus in question was a young lady called Florence, who used to be a circus performer for a Chinese Circus, till she decided to quit.

Florence was an underwater acrobat for the circus but she left after her boyfriend Alex lost his life when he fell to his death while walking the tightrope without a safety harness or a net beneath him.

Florence was a slim young Chinese woman and she was nervous.

“Did you see who killed this man?” I asked her.

“I saw that he was swimming away from something which was after him. I could not see what he was being chased by,” said Florence, as she stood covered in a towel. Her octopus outfit was on the floor a few feet away, a few of the tentacles were covered in blood.

It was the blood of the Merman, which had covered the tentacles when Florence went to save him.

She saw a stream of blood coming out of the cave, after Boris the Merman went in and did not come out.

The merman died when an underwater cave collapsed.

The headless body of the merman is found.

It is murder as a bloodied metal wire is found hidden under a rock in the underwater cave in the amusement park.

The police need to make an arrest.

The people need to know that the culprit of this abominable crime is caught and behind bars.

A number of people from the amusement park were aware of the fact that the Amusement Park Manager Simon Hosford wanted Boris Poseidon the Merman to retire from his job, so that he could replace him with his son, to take the role of Neptune the God of the Sea in the Atlantis themed Amusement Park.

CHAPTER 3

I am not convinced that the Manager of the Amusement Park had wanted Boris dead. It was the Simon Hosford who had called us in to solve this crime.

Why would the man call us to solve the crime, if he was guilty of the crime?

I arrive at my Centre of Story Research, where I find Joe the computer whiz and Arabella the paranormal research specialist and Helen the Story Architect working.

“Arabella could you tell me who would benefit from the death of Boris the Merman,” I ask her.

“I will check his records,” she says as she types the name of the Merman into the database.

“It seems that he has a step-daughter who is his only living relative and will benefit from his death,” says Arabella.

“According to the facts it seems like she is the murderer,” I tell her, “But, I think that there is more to this story than meets the eye.”

“There is another story making the news now,” says Helen our Story Architect and Hunter.

“What is it? Is it the story of the Man on the Moon coming to Earth?” asks Joe with a laugh, “who would take care of all...
