They have also excited ongoing controversy in terms of their historical content and significance. Translator C. K. Scott Moncrieff takes a modern approach to the correspondence, adding new significance to its reflection of medieval attitudes toward love, marriage, and religion.
Scottish translator Charles Kenneth Scott Moncrieff (1889–1930) is best known for his interpretation of Proust's seven-volume Remembrance of Things Past. He also translated The Song of Roland, Beowulf, and works by Stendhal and Pirandello.
