A new comedy by Torben Betts, starring Olivier & Evening Standard award winner Janie Dee. A searing, sharp, state of the nation comedy from one of the UK’s most exciting playwrights.
Monogamy means sharing your life with one person, but what if you shared your kitchen with 5.6 million?

Caroline Mortimer, the nation’s favourite TV cook, has it all – a sparkling career, a big house in Highgate, a (golf) loving husband, smart kids and the best kitchen money can buy.

But beneath the immaculate furnishings, studio lighting and away from the glare of the ever-present cameras – Caroline must face the looming collision of living a private life in the public eye. What happens when the cameras turn off and the truth comes out?

Caroline's Kitchen serves up deft dialogue in absurd situations: "Betts paints a wonderfully lurid picture of the middle classes, juxtaposed with the fragility of those who serve them" (The Stage). First performed as Monogamy at Malvern Theatre starring Janie Dee, it then embarked on a national tour.

It is a  searing, sharp, state of the nation comedy from one of the UK’s most exciting playwrights, Torben Betts.

Torben Betts read English Literature & English Language at the University of Liverpool before training and working as an actor. Works include: The Unconquered, Best New Play 2007 Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland (Tron/Traverse/Arcola/Brits-off-Broadway); A Listening Heaven, nominated for Best New Play at the 2001 TMA Awards (Edinburgh Royal Lyceum); Lie of the Land, nominated for Edinburgh Fringe First Award, 2008 (Edinburgh Pleasance/Arcola); Clockwatching (Orange Tree Theatre); The Company Man (Orange Tree Theatre); The Biggleswades (Southwark Playhouse); Five Visions of the Faithful (Edinburgh Festival); The Lunatic Queen (Riverside Studios); The Error of Their Ways (HERE Arts Center, New York); The Swing of Things (Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough); The National Joke (Stephen Joseph Theatre); Invincible (Orange Tree Theatre and St James Theatre, London, Brits-off-Broadway); What Falls Apart (Live Theatre, Newcastle); Get Carter (Northern Stage). 'just about the most original and extraordinary writer of drama we have...a boldly visionary poet...a political Beckett...a flamingly original writer we ignore at our peril.' Liz Lochhead, National Poet of Scotland 'an uncommonly talented playwright'. Time Out ‘Betts has a profound and highly original theatrical voice.' Daily Telegraph
