In this stunning one-man play by the award-winning and bestselling author Eoin Colfer - `a born raconteur... a true original' (Daily Telegraph) - Wexford man Noel asks his best friend for `a bit of a speech, for the afters'. We soon learn that the `afters' in question are Noel's own funeral. He has been diagnosed with MS and has decided to end it all.
Sitting alone in his room waiting for the pills to take effect, Noel dictates his final thoughts on two sides of a 90-minute cassette tape for his best friend. Being `of sound mind and unsound body', he has apologies to make and messages to send. He has love in his heart and he wants to declare it, even if it's already too late. And so he spends what is possibly the last hour of his life reliving the highs and lows of the past forty years.
My Real Life is sharply written, sensitive, funny and immensely moving, a tour de force by Colfer who with `his great humanity [and] comic genius' (director Ben Barnes) has created an unforgettable play - theatre at its very best.

Eoin Colfer is the author of the internationally bestselling Artemis Fowl books. His other titles include The Wish List, The Supernaturalist, Airman and the Legends series for younger readers. Colfer has won numerous awards including The British Children's Book of the Year, The Irish Book Awards Children's Book of the Year and The German Children's Book of the Year. The BBC has made a hit series based on his book Half Moon Investigations, and in 2009 he was commissioned by Douglas Adams's estate to write And Another Thing, the concluding episode of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. Colfer also writes crime novels featuring Irish bouncer Daniel McEvoy, and his most recent work is the award-winning picture book Imaginary Fred in collaboration with acclaimed Belfast artist Oliver Jeffers. Colfer has recently finished a two-year term as Ireland's Children's Laureate and was delighted to be allowed to play around with the Iron Man character in his 2016 novel The Gauntlet. Kenneth Branagh is slated to direct the forthcoming film adaptation of Artemis Fowl for Disney. For the theatre Colfer has written the books for the musicals The Lords of Love, Bellebottoms and Noel with composer Liam Bates, and scripts for the plays Holy Mary and My Real Life, which you hold in your hands.
