Play script of Jack Dean's play Grandad and the Machine. A story for anyone who ever dreamed of a different world.A hundred-year-old mechanical monster emerges from the waves. Everyday objects turn on their makers and the Empire is plunged into chaos. No one knows why. No one can stop it. Except maybe Grandad. He always was good with a spanner. That's why Imogen and her father head north to find him. Their journey becomes an epic quest across England that leads to the heart of a dark family secret.A brand new steampunk fairytale for grownups, probing the depths of British identity through a simple tale of growing up and learning to be free. There will be Zeppelins. It will be whimsical. We will overcome tyranny while having a rollicking good time.

Jack Dean is a Yorkshire-based writer, performer and theatre maker who has carried his love of weird and wonderful arrangements of words to many places, from the Bowery Poetry Club in New York, Latitude Festival and the Radio 4 National Poetry Slam to a male beauty contest in Hackney (long story). Jack likes to take the hip hop medium he grew up with, go out with it, get it drunk and push it down the high street in a shopping trolley full of fireworks at 4am. He hopes you'll join him on this quixotic adventure.
