Military working dogs are a crucial yet overlooked part of Britain's fighting forces in some of the most dangerous places on the planet. Many of them are rescue animals, neglected or mistreated by their owners before being given a new lease of life on the front line. Day after day, in blistering heat and facing Britain's deadliest foe in decades, these heroic dog teams battle against storms of bombs and bullets to save our soldiers.
Through in-depth interviews, unparalleled access to army sources and frontline reportage, award-winning
journalist Stephen Stewart tells the dogs' gripping - and emotional - stories for the first time. From the desert plains of Helmand to the verdant hills of Germany, A Soldier's Best Friend gives an extraordinary insight into the dogs' close relationships with their handlers and their action-packed lives.
