This debut volume presents several extraordinary homes, each of which gracefully balances high style with easygoing comfort. Drawing on the heritage of the Mediterranean world, Mohon adapts classical proportions, motifs, and materials invested with a dash of contemporary elan to create living environments that transport their occupants to an enchanted realm far removed from day-to-day concerns. The featured homes range from a stone-clad villa in Austin to a casual seaside retreat to an art-filled family compound. Intimate foyers beckon from behind carved wooden doors, dining rooms boast dramatically embellished chandeliers above sleekly simple tables, and sitting rooms entice with luxurious blends of colors and fabrics. The book includes many of Mohon s exquisite watercolor sketches, which are integral to his design process. Their poetic sensibility infuses every room, translating into spaces that exude romance through their compelling mix of tones, textures, and furnishings both modern and antique. A wealth of design ideas is provided to resonate with today s personally expressive sensibility. Sophisticated and full of patina, these interiors are sure to inspire and delight.
Marcus Mohon founded Austin, Texas-based Mohon Interiors in 2001 and has since brought his deep expertise in architecture and design to bear on many high-profile residential projects with noted collaborators. His work on homes from California to Florida has been covered in Veranda, Milieu, Luxe, Coastal Living, and Southern Living, among other publications, and recognized with prestigious awards such as the ICAA John Staub Award for Interior Design and multiple Luxe Red Awards. Mohon also designed a Southern Living Idea House and participated in the inaugural Kips Bay Showhouse in Dallas. Kyle Hoepner has been telling the stories of architects, interior designers, and landscape professionals for many years, first as editor-in-chief of the shelter magazine New England Home and more recently as an independent writer and consultant. His work has appeared in Architectural Digest and other leading lifestyle publications as well as in several books from The Monacelli Press and Rizzoli.
