Sowing Unrest––the Biennale Reader was published on the occasion of the third Biennale Matter of Art. With newly commissioned as well as republished essays, conversations, poems, and artistic contributions, it grafts the two curatorial threads of the biennale – Aleksei Borisionok’s interest in workers’ movements and Katalin Erdodi’s focus on rural change – in order to talk about the past, present, and future of political movements across the rural–urban divide.

How do people in rural areas organize to effect change in society? How can people strike and achieve their political demands? How can care be organized as a basis for solidarity and mutual aid? We are curious about the various ways in which unrest – a state ofdissatisfaction, disturbance, and agitation – can grow in unexpected places.

Sowing Unrest - The Biennale Reader wurde anlässlich der dritten Biennale Matter of Art veröffentlicht. Mit neu in Auftrag gegebenen und wiederveröffentlichten Essays, Gesprächen, Gedichten und künstlerischen Beiträgen verknüpft es die beiden kuratorischen Themen der Biennale - Aleksei Borisionoks Interesse an ArbeiterInnenbewegungen und Katalin Erdodis Fokussierung auf den Wandel im ländlichen Raum -, um über die Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft politischer Bewegungen jenseits der Kluft zwischen Stadt und Land zu sprechen.

Wie organisieren sich Menschen in ländlichen Gebieten, um einen gesellschaftlichen Wandel zu bewirken? Wie können Menschen streiken und ihre politischen Forderungen durchsetzen? Wie kann die Pflege als Grundlage für Solidarität und gegenseitige Hilfe organisiert werden? Wir sind neugierig auf die verschiedenen Arten, wie Unruhe - ein Zustand der Unzufriedenheit, der Störung und der Aufregung - an unerwarteten Orten entstehen kann.
